Classic Harbor Line Boston Frequently Asked Questions

We are here to help with any of your concerns.  Below is a list of Classic Harbor Line Boston Frequently asked questions.  If you have more questions please feel free to contact us at 617-951-2460.

Do trips sell out frequently?

Trips often sell out, especially on the weekend; check the calendar online or call at least a week in advance to check availability for public trips, and to book as early as possible.

What happens if the trip is sold out?

Unfortunately, we do not have a waitlist, so please book well in advance.

How do I check in?

Your confirmation email is not a boarding pass. You must come to the office located in the ferry terminal at 60 Rowes Wharf to check in and collect your boarding pass. The ferry terminal is located behind the Boston Harbor Hotel on the water side.

What if I am late?

The boat leaves on time. We recommend giving yourself plenty of time to find your way around and check in. If you do end up missing the boat, please still stop by the ticket desk in person as we will be happy to try to rebook you on a later cruise that day or another time as available. Though we do not guarantee that we will find anything available if our cruises are fully booked. If you haven’t arrived yet or forgot about your cruise, please send an email to [email protected] and we will our best to reschedule you.

Is there parking and how much is it?

Limited metered parking can be found around Rowes Wharf. Regular daily rate at the Boston Harbor Hotel is $42. However, with a validation from Classic Harbor Line it will be $36. After 5PM weekdays and anytime on weekends the rate is $20, but with a validation it will be $14. Please be sure to ask our ticket representative for validation when you check-in.

What type of ticket should I buy if I’m bringing a very young child?

Not all of our trips are appropriate for children. Our daytime activities have child-priced tickets available for purchase. For children between the ages of 3 and 14 you should purchase a reduced-price child ticket. Children ages 2 and younger ride for free, but you’ll still need to enter the appropriate number of infant tickets labeled “Free” when making a purchase.

For evening events only adult tickets are available. If you feel your child is mature enough to enjoy a two-hour sunset sail with other adults, you may purchase an adult ticket for them.

All passengers must have a ticket, regardless of age, so please make sure your entire party is accounted for when booking.

Is food served on board?

The schooner Adirondack III does not have food available for purchase, however you can bring any snacks you would like or make it a picnic lunch! Snacks and appetizers are available for purchase on all cruises onboard our motor vessel Northern Lights. Certain special events on both vessels, including brunch on our motor vessel Northern Lights have buffets and the cost of the ticket on those events includes a meal.

How about drinks? Should I bring those?

No, it is illegal for you to bring your own alcohol on board.

All of our sails aboard Schooner Adirondack III have soda, water, champagne, wine, and beer available for purchase on board.

Motor Yacht Northern Lights has a full bar, with refreshments for sale.

Are the vessels safe?

Absolutely. Both the schooner Adirondack III and motor yacht Northern Lights are safe and gentle vessels. Along with your captain, there is a minimum of two crew members on every trip to make sure you feel comfortable and at home on the water. We are stocked with beverages, blankets, ponchos, and life jackets, should you feel you need one. There are also private marine heads (bathroom) on each vessel.

How steady is the ride? Am I likely to get seasick?

Both the schooner Adirondack III and motor yacht Northern Lights are steady, gentle vessels. It is very rare for our guests to become seasick. While most people do not experience any seasickness on board, if you are prone to motion sickness and usually take medication for it, you may want to consider light medication. We cannot officially advise you to take any medication, however.

Is there a bathroom on the boat?

Yes, both boats are equipped with bathrooms that are accessible at all times. Aboard the schooner Adirondack III, we call them “marine heads” and they are unlike the bathrooms you use at home. Using a marine head involves pumping, and there are simple directions posted in the bathroom on how to use it.

Is there an age limit?

While there is no age limit for the sails, all attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Can I stow anything (eg, my briefcase) during the trip?

There is space where you may store your belongings. Please keep in mind that this area is not guarded, so we cannot take responsibility for any broken, lost or missing items. But we have not had any problems with items being left on prior trips.

Where does the trip finish?

Our trips will end at the same pier from which they departed, Rowes Wharf.

Can I get a refund or reschedule my tickets after buying them?

**Refund/Rescheduling Policy**

An option to reschedule or convert to a gift certificate is available up until 24 hours prior to departure. We are not able to offer refunds.  Requests for cancellation, rescheduling or conversion to gift credit must be sent by email to [email protected].

Most activities run regardless of weather conditions. In the rare situation where the seller is forced to cancel the event, ticket-holders will be allowed to reschedule to another time (subject to availability), receive credit for a future event, or receive a refund.

Do you ever cancel due to bad weather?

Trips run in light rain and other moderate weather situations. The only time we cancel a trip is in the event of severe or unsafe weather conditions. Our captains monitor the radar to watch fronts and cells in the area on days when inclement weather is possible. Cancellations are made on the day of the event, by the captain, up to one hour prior to departure. If you have purchased tickets for a trip that is canceled, you will have the opportunity to reschedule your tickets (subject to availability), receive credit towards a future event, or get a refund.

What happens if it starts raining when we’re out?

Don’t worry- we won’t melt! Trips with a little wetness have proven to be some of the most memorable bonding experiences for our guests. (This all depends on attitude of course…) Light weight, plastic ponchos are available for all of our guests aboard the Adirondack III in the case we are caught in a rain-shower.

Is gratuity included in the price of the ticket?

Gratuity is not included in the price of the ticket.

Are the boats accessible to those with certain needs?

No, unfortunately our vessels are not ADA compliant. However, our motor vessel, Northern Lights can be easily accessed by wheelchair. The gangways to the dock and vessel are all ramps and crew members will be standing by to assist. The first deck of Northern Lights, including bathrooms can be accessed by wheelchair. The second deck accessible by stairs only, however there are plenty of windows for sightseeing on the first deck, and all services are available on the first deck. If you have any accessibility questions, please email Nick Clanton at [email protected].

Can I book a private charter?

Yes, private charters can be unique and elegant events. If you are interested, you can stop by our ticket desk or email Nick Clanton at [email protected] and we will get you started on planning your ideal event.

Is smoking permitted during the trip?

No, smoking is not permitted anywhere on our vessels.

Are pets allowed on board?

No pets are permitted aboard our vessels. Service animals performing a physical service are always permitted and welcomed per state and federal laws. Emotional or psychological support animals do not meet the requirement of service animals and are not permitted aboard the vessels.

Are gift certificates available for purchase?

Yes, gift certificates are available for purchase and they make a perfect gift for holidays, birthdays or any other occasion! All of our gift certificates are electronic and can be purchased in any numeric denomination. You can view our events to see the average price of our cruises to decide which amount you would like to purchase as a gift. You can purchase gift certificates here (include link to gift certificate booking)
